Algeria has great capabilities to produce drones.

ALGIERS- The Minister of Economy, Knowledge, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, Yacine El Mahdi Oualid, said Thursday in Algiers that Algeria has great capacities to develop models of drones, used in several areas such as agriculture and the fight against natural disasters, which allows it to move from research to production and marketing.

Mr. Oualid indicated at the opening of a study day on drones, placed under the theme "Drones: applications and perspectives", in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, senior executives from the Ministries of National Defence, Post and Telecommunications, Agriculture and Rural Development, in addition to several heads of public companies, that Algeria has "great capacities" to produce drones , adding that many young innovators and start-ups have succeeded in "designing drone prototypes".

The Minister pointed out that these machines "have a promising future in different areas of life, such as agriculture, natural disaster control, mining, defense, etc., which requires "more efforts and strong government interest in moving from research and development to production and commercialization".

Mr. Oualid also specified that the objective of this study day is to discover these skills to help them realize their projects financially or by accompanying them to learn about the regulations in this sector, recalling that many regulatory texts concerning the field of drones have been released in recent years.

For his part, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research has indicated that his sector will begin in the coming weeks the development of specifications for the creation of a higher school of independent systems to which the drones.

Mr. Bidari welcomed the "promising innovations" developed by students and researchers in the field, saying that his ministerial department and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-enterprises will work to create of "mixed economic companies between the research centers activating in the field of independent systems and the centers financing these companies with a view to developing and marketing these manufactured models".

The organization of this event takes place "in the context of the dynamics of technological change in the use of drones and their applications, knowing that they cover several areas including control activities and instantaneous and precise detection and are at the reach of private individuals, administrations, businesses and governments", according to a document distributed by the Ministry of the Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-Enterprises to the press.

This study day, which brought together local actors specialized in the design of this type of technology, also aims to examine the prospects and projects available for start-ups and project leaders in addition to mastering this technology in the scientific fields, practical and economical.

It is also an opportunity for public and private companies as well as for economic operators to explore the means provided by these techniques in order to remedy their problems and improve their performance.

This event was marked by the presentation of presentations on some drone models developed by Algerian students and startups.
